Externships

During my clinical year, I chose to coordinate more than seven weeks of externships.  The purpose of the externships was three-fold: to learn more about the internship programs in the Tri-State Area, to gain valuable clinical experience outside of Cornell, and to widen my professional network.

Animal Medical Center

I spent two weeks at the Animal Medical Center in the fall of 2017 shadowing Drs. Slade and Palma in Internal Medicine.  I especially enjoyed meeting all of the Cornell alumni who work at the AMC.  The morning lectures given by staff doctors were extremely helpful.  My favorite part was seeing a wide variety of endoscopic procedures!

Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group

My two-week externship at VERG in Brooklyn in January 2017 was a great prelude to my clinical year.  I was fortunate enough to rotate freely through all the services of the hospital.  My favorite part of the externship was shadowing Dr. DiFazio on the Critical Care Service.  I loved exploring Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Bridge Park in the winter!

BLUEPEARL

In the fall of 2017, I had the pleasure of rotating through all four BluePearl locations in New York City shadowing Drs. Seltzer and Abraham on the Dermatology Service.  I knew that additional training in dermatology would be invaluable in a career in general practice.  I loved the fast pace of the practice!

As an undergraduate, I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with Dr. Palminteri while working at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine Reunion.  Since that time, I have visited Oradell twice, shadowing Dr. Carberry in surgery as well as Drs. O'Malley and Winter in emergency.
